The calm before the storm

I barely had enough time to get back inside, let alone to close the windows and start up the oil furnace.

Sometimes it’s hard to think what the future holds, especially when there have been positive developments in the recent past. You start to think that thing will continue on that sunny trajectory for a while. And then you’re absolutely floored when everything falls into chaos. This is the “calm before the storm,” as they call it. And let me tell you, I’m no stranger to the sudden shift in temperature. I personally was waiting for a nice, sunny day to go out and labor in the yard recently, and it seemed care about the weekend was going to be warm, comfortable, and pleasant for such activities. I was fully prepared to be out in the warm, humid air all day long with my sunhat… but I didn’t realize that a horrible weather system was on the cusp of creation. As the balmy Spring day rolled through, everything felt calm and comfortable. And then, all hell broke loose. A terrible storm came rolling through the area, bringing ice chilly air and pounding rain with it. I barely had enough time to get back inside, let alone to close the windows and start up the oil furnace. By the time I was situated indoors again, my beach house was drenched and cold cold. I have to operate the central oil furnace on full blast for fifths to offset the rapid temperature change, then my Heating, Ventilation, and A/C system was not amused by the sudden USge. I can tell you, my garden wasn’t actually fond of the chilly air front, either… Next time, I’ll be prepared for a rapid return to Wintertide weather, and my Heating, Ventilation, and A/C system will be too.
