In parenthood, I guess the most trying time is when raising a teenager. It is challenging to raise a child who thinks they are already an adult. Teenagers always seem to be doing something they are not meant to be doing. The day I discovered my teenage child had been smoking cigarettes & using the whole-house air purifier to mask the smell, I was super irritated more so because she managed to do it for so long separate from detection. It so happened that a single night, the air cleaner stopped working abruptly. It had been making odd noises all through the week. I crawled out of bed to check the system & found that it was off. I maintained the control unit with the heat pump & it was working fine. I abruptly checked the air filters & air ducts & noticed they were dusty. I would wipe them in the morning. As I passed by my daughter’s room, I smelled a whiff of cigarette smoke. In the morning, she admitted to smoking cigarettes & using the air quality system to mask the smell. I was angry & for punishment, she had to help with duct cleaning plus cleaning the washable filters to improve the indoor air quality. She was lucky both of us did not have to do any duct sealing on the HVAC duct. Every one of us agreed that she would stop smoking after I showed her pictures of how her lungs would look by the time she was my age, which scared her. In the process, she found out how to run easy repair on our heat & A/C products. The next day, both of us went up to the local company to get some more filters.
