Funny story, I actually moved out here not because I wanted to break into show business, but my girlfriend wanted to.
She thought she was going to be an actress, and at the time I thought that maybe she could.
She certainly had the looks for it, and since I was 21 at the time the looks part of it was enough for me to come with her. As you might imagine, her career didn’t take off, and our young relationship couldn’t handle the stress. I wasn’t worried, because as a certified HVAC technician I can find a job basically anywhere. The day our relationship ended was the day I got the best heating and cooling job of my entire life. I drove her to this local theater that was having an open casting call for a new show, and while I was in the lobby I saw some of the performers fiddling with the thermostat. I asked them what was up, and they said the stage area wasn’t getting any cooling, and it was making the tryouts miserable. The handyman had the day off, I guess, and no one was there to work on the air conditioning for them, so I offered to take a look. Within ten minutes I had the stage flooded with air conditioning, just in time to get out there and see my girlfriend bomb her audition. They hired me as the A/C tech for the theater, and on the drive home from that she broke up with me. I think she was jealous!
