Scaring my kid straight with HVAC work

I found out my kid is failing middle school.

I have been trying all year to get her to focus, but she refuses, and it is not a matter of not being smart enough, she just has total indifference to school.

She doesn’t like it, and refuses to try her best, or even a moderate amount, and her grades are awful. I decided to keep her out of school one day so she could go to work with me. I have tried talking to her many times, to no avail, and I was hoping this would be the wake up call she needed. I work mostly with installing commercial grade HVAC systems, usually in businesses or strip malls, hardly ever any residential work. I think it’s a pretty good job, but it is a lot of physical labor, and it’s that aspect of HVAC work that I was hoping would scare her straight, so to speak. If you are used to sitting in an air conditioned classroom all day with your pals, having to crawl around in small air ducts and lug tools around would probably seem pretty awful. My kid seemed to like it, though, or at least she liked the aspect of doing HVAC work for a paycheck at the end of the week. She didn’t care about grades, she cared about money, so I told her what kind of money an HVAC tech could make if they had their certification. But eve undoing a job like this requires some education, although the path to HVAC certification is much shorter than that of a college degree.
