A few weeks ago I decided it was the perfect opportunity to take a vacation from the south and visit my mom up north.
- I rarely get to see her because we live in such diverse parts of the country.
Since we both normally work full-time jobs, there isn’t a great opportunity to spend quality time with my family. That’s why, I was happy to pack up my stuff and head towards cooler air in the northern part of the country for the summer. I didn’t take very much with me when I left, but I made sure that I brought one small heating implement. Specifically, a food heating implement. I brought my little vegetable steamer with me when I went, so I could enjoy high-quality meals the entire time I was at her house. The steamer works easily, by pumping humid and warm air into the attached chambers. The humidity effectively steams your food without using added chemicals or fats. I really love my little food steamer, but my Mom apparently hates it. She has decided that the steamer is responsible for adding humidity to her indoor air. As soon as I used the steamer, she told me that it was feeling muggy and uncomfortable in her house. I knew that this was impossible, because the AC system was chugging away. I thought the air temperature and air quality felt absolutely fine. She was insistent that my tiny steamer was introducing unmanageable indoor humidity to her expensive treated indoor air. When I came up here to visit, I expected the weather to be cooler… But I didn’t know that my mom would be such a hot and cold nightmare.
