Renting an office to work more efficiently

My boyfriend Earl and I both work entirely from home.

  • We each have an independent office in the house.

Our office includes a computer, desk and swivel chair. We each have different types of tasks to handle. Earl can’t seem to manage the separation. No matter what I do, he loves to come into my office for a visit. Even if I close the door, turn on music or tell him I am really busy, my boyfriend still interrupts my work day repeatedly. Earl is a salary based employee. He has to be technically at work from 9-5. Pretty much, he does a ton of e-mailing, makes lots of calls and wastes time. For me, my responsibilities are content based. The more efficiently I accomplish my workload for the day, the faster my day ends. I can’t be productive when I have constant interruptions. So now I am checking out office spaces for rent in the area. I discovered a good-sized office building for rent that offers individual offices I can choose from. Each compact office provides a door that locks, a single window, a desk plus and easy access to a bathroom. That is all I require. The price of renting an office there is fairly cheap. The office rental is only a ten minute drive from my house. I think I am going to go ahead with this plan. . I can pick up my Tim Hortons Cappuccino on the way to work, be more efficient and get home fairly early in the day. There will be no need to dress up because nobody will be there to see me. I will get away from Earl’s interruptions. It will be difficult explaining why I need to rent an office when I have a perfectly good office at home. I might need to make up a reason.
