An HVAC warmth upgrade needed for a new home office

That’s what we did

We have a room in our home that just doesn’t ever seem to want to warm up. It stays cold. There is always a chill in that room that reminds me of those old horror movies. However, I feel quite certain that there are no demons possessing that room. But, that doesn’t make the at least 10 degree difference from the rest of the house any better. It’s not too bad in the dead of summer but, summer doesn’t last all that long in these parts. Due to some changes in our company, I had to have an office to work from like 3 to 4 days a week. That meant I had to use the cold room. I wasn’t about to turn up the heat enough to offset this rooms temperature. That would cost a fortune in HVAC utilities. But, I wasn’t prepared to work in there every week in a parka either. There had to be something that I could do. I made sure the window in that room was properly insulated and sealed. I also went outside and sealed the window and anything else that looked like it was letting in cold air. This did nothing. So, I finally called the HVAC people and asked them to come out. The HVAC tech said the reason for the cold room was the former owner disturbed the HVAC air flow design by adding some interior walls. But, he suggested that I add a small, ductless HVAC unit to that room. That’s what we did. It was affordable and does a great job. Now, I think I like my new home office more than I do the office downtown.
