Summertime errands

I had gone from overheated and covered in sweat to freezing cold and covered in goosebumps in very little time

When you’re running errands in the summertime and it is hot and sunny outside, nothing feels better than popping inside a store and feeling that initial cool blast of the industrial air conditioner. In July last year, I was running some errands and looking forward to stepping inside stores and businesses for that icy air conditioning. The air conditioner in my car was broken and driving around was miserable. Without air conditioning, I was covered in sweat and my hair was sticking to my sweaty face. I was fanning my face with a take-out menu from a Chinese restaurant with one hand and driving with the other. When I finally got to my first destination, I trudged through the sweltering parking lot and was rewarded with the rush of cold air conditioning when I stepped through the doors of the grocery store. At first, it was a relief to cool down inside the store. I was glad the store was so cool, because I was very overheated. But the relief slowly turned into discomfort as the icy cold blasts from the air conditioner vents assaulted me almost everywhere I went. You wouldn’t think you could be too cold in the summertime, especially after driving around in a car without air conditioning, but I was shivering in no time. I had gone from overheated and covered in sweat to freezing cold and covered in goosebumps in very little time. It seemed like the store had their thermostat set at freezing and I wondered how they could afford to keep their air conditioner running like that. I was almost glad to get out of there and back into my sweltering car.
