My little slice of the world

I live in a somewhat secluded condo on the north end of town, but living here is good if you’re a hermit, an outdoorsman or simply a fan of rustic architecture, and in our case, I moved to this side of the neighborhood due to the property being much cheaper.

  • I know nobody truly wants to live this far away from the center of town? Anyway, section of our inclination towards this particular house came from how stripped-down it was! There was virtually no heating or cooling system, as the previous owner sold it off for scrap to make a cheap buck before leaving, however worse yet, was that the house didn’t even have a fireplace! The weather here is mild until Wintertime, so I didn’t mind staying in a warmer place until the chilly days started to arrive, then before Wintertime came, I invested in an outdoor wood boiler to act as the heating system for our house.

I liked it because of the appearance and simplicity in use, all I needed to do to heat our house was throw wood into the fire, and the boiler captures heat from the burning wood and sends it via water in piping to the house. I tried to make a point to also rolling out a boiler that used a catalytic converter, since it would recirculate smoke through the boiler to add a bit more heat. Much love how a catalytic converter lowers your car’s emissions, the converter makes the boiler produce far less smoke during operation. It’s about the most similar thing I could get to having a fireplace, and it was also much safer, too! Not many people realize how disastrous it could be to have a fire going in a house that’s made one hundred percent out of wood!
