Using a gala to raise money and awareness for Siesta Key Beach pollution

My wife and I are actually on the board of directors for a large nonprofit organization… Each year, the two of us have a weekend gala to raise cash for different local organizations, and one place that is definitely near and dear to my heart is Siesta Key Beach.

My wife and I have been living in the Sarasota, FL area for our whole lives.

My wife grew up over by the bridge to St. Armands and I grew up a mile from our current home in the Rosemary District. Both of us knew each other in elementary school, and the two of us amazingly saw each other again in university. Then, when I was a kid, I spent every moment at the beach, as I rode my bike down to the pier and spent most of the day trying to catch varying fish. When I was old enough to begin surfing, my parents got myself and my siblings all lessons and a cool board. One of my number one places to visit here is Siesta Key Beach in Sarasota, and there is a lot of active marine life in this particular region like jellyfish, sharks, dolphins, and other fish. Each year, Sarasota County and Siesta Key is definitely visited by more than 300,000 tourists. That is surely a great deal of foot traffic. Over the past year, many dead fish and wildlife have actually washed ashore. The largest problem is companies dumping their waste runoff into our water system. It causes many different localized problems. There is a lot of algae in the water known as red tide. My wife and I are hoping to raise a lot of cash and awareness while in the next gala. There are a lot of projects under way to keep our beloved Siesta Key Beach in Sarasota from becoming a polluted wasteland.
