Doing my part for environment with geothermal heat pump

I am very conscientious about my impact on the environment.

  • I strive to minimize my carbon footprint as much as possible.

I ride my bike or take public transportation instead of driving my car. I recycle all glass, metal and plastic containers and compost my kitchen waste. I use no pesticides on my vegetable garden and have a barrel where I collect rainwater for irrigation. I always bring cloth bags to the grocery store. Although it was a very large investment, I outfitted my home with a geothermal heat pump. The biggest expense was the necessary excavation to incorporate the underground loop system. However, this network of pipes draws from the free and renewable energy source provided by the sun. The underground temperature remains relatively constant all year round. The geothermal heat pump simply moves heat from the ground into my home and back. It doesn’t burn fossil fuels to create heat, which avoids greenhouse gas emissions. The geothermal heat pump is so efficient that it generates four units of energy for every one it draws. Plus, I installed a series of solar panels to provide the electricity to run the heat pump. I heat and cool my home, all year round, for free. The system even supplements my household hot water needs. I have recovered the initial investment in three years. I enjoy very clean, safe and environmentally friendly comfort. Along with doing my part to protect our natural resources, I benefit from exceptional humidity control, air filtration and quiet sound levels. With proper maintenance, the heat pump should last upwards of twenty years. The underground loop system could last for a hundred years.
