I have a little place of my own in what some call the south.
But, I assure you, it is not at all the deep south because we still have some winter here.
It might not be anything compared to up north. But, it definitely gets cool enough to where the heat needs to be on all day. I love the fact that we get to experience such distinct four seasons. It is so lovely to witness. The leaves in the fall are tremendous. But, might be outdone by all the blooming trees and flowers during the spring. The summer can get hot but then it slides out and right into fall again. I got married to a local woman and we started a family right here. The house we live in is way off in the woods but we are still able to be on the electric grid. We have a wood stove which provides excellent heat during the winter. And all it costs me is the sweat off my brow and a little gas for the chainsaw. My wife and I went years without any sort of HVAC cooling. We were fine with fans even though it could be warm sleeping through the night. However, we have children now. We were able to create bedrooms for them upstairs but we really needed to cool that floor so those kids could sleep. I had a buddy of mine who is an HVAC tech in the nearest town come out to give us options. He felt that the only answer was to put in a mini split heating and cooling unit for the second floor of our home. The beauty part is that this type of HVAC unit does not require any ductwork. So, right there was a big motivating reason to have him put that thing in.
