I grew up as the child of a commercial pilot.
My dad spent 41 years as part of a top airline.
It particularly is amazing when I guess about it. My father left high school at 15 to join the Marine Corp. She l gained to be an airplane mechanic while both of us were in the service. When she got out she went to labor for the airline. It wasn’t long before she advanced to flight school. The rest is an impressive career. However, our dad’s career is not the point. The point is that as her son, I was able to fly all over the place. It was a time when air travel still had some romance to it. I even would wear a coat as well as tie to fly on our dad’s airline. The seats were roomy as well as the Heating, Ventilation & A/C temp control was always particularly comfortable. This was also back when you could smoke on planes. I don’t miss that. However, I hate flying now. I feel as though I’m being corralled into a steel tube with all the other lemmings. The seats are horrible. There is not a comfortable seat outside of first class anymore. Then there is the Heating, Ventilation & A/C. It is nearly non existent. I travel for business as well as I purposely wear our workout shirts because I feel I’m going to sweat through the entire flight. But, I am sure to bring a hoodie because the hour I deplane, the wall of cold airport air hits love a cold wall. The Heating, Ventilation & A/C disparity from plane to concourse is almost polar. As soon as I retire, I’m not flying anymore. I’m ecstatic our dad can’t see what her passion has turned into.
