The noticeable sound of the air conditioner in our church

My pastor is a pretty funny guy.

  • I realize and understand because I work with him during the week.

He tells jokes constantly, both in private and during his time of teaching. While preaching, he is funny and notices everything. This last week, he made a big point about how quiet the church had been of late. He wasn’t talking about the people or how often they talked during the service. Rather, he was mentioning that the room felt uncomfortable without the background noise of our different HVAC units. During the Winter, the sound of the furnace can be heard every day, and you almost stop noticing it until its gone. During the Summer, it is the same way with the air conditioner. The noise becomes so habitual that you forget that it’s even there. However, during the Spring and Fall, when the temperatures are comfortable without the aid of any HVAC unit, the room feels uncomfortable, but nobody can ever figure out why. It just seems sad and eery in the room. However, our pastor reminded us that without the HVAC units, it can feel that way. I am glad that our church has the HVAC units, and I know that everybody would rather have the background noise rather than face the consequences of changing the climate. However, there is one problem with background noise. The microphones can pick it up too, meaning that the Spring and Fall is the only time that our mics sound great. I’m sure that somebody has a way to solve that HVAC dilemma.
